College Dinners & Film Discussions: What are Humans for?

Posted in Uncategorized on August 21, 2015 by epiphanytyler

And the people in the houses all went to the university,
Where they were put in boxes and they came out all the same,
And there’s doctors and lawyers, and business executives,
And they’re all made out of ticky tacky and they all look just the same.

Little Boxes

This semester, we will explore what humans are for by watching a bit of a super cool cut of the Hobbit each week and using it to talk about the human ‘vocation.’ (This cut is super cool because it shaves off all of Peter Jackson’s extra plot points and sticks to the book!)

The Epiphany College Community hosts Dinner / Discussions for college students at Callynth Photography’s Studio (117 E Erwin) on the Downtown Tyler square every Thursday night from 6-8 PM.

Come explore life, God, and questions with fellow travelers.

After a great home-style meal, we watch segments of films and talk about them.  If you are a college student, we would love to have you join us (and bring a friend). Questions?  Facebook message me, email me at epiphanyttx@gmail.com, or text me at 903-279-2509.

PS:  FREE DINNER!  (you caught that, right?)

Summer Men’s Depth Group!

Posted in Uncategorized on June 3, 2015 by epiphanytyler

‘Making your way in the world today takes everything you’ve got.  Taking a break from all your worries sure would help a lot.  Wouldn’t you like to get away?  Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name and they’re always glad you came!’

Is it cheesy that I just quoted the opening line from the theme song of the classic 80’s sitcom, Cheers?  Perhaps it is.  On the other hand, there was a reason that show and song lasted 11 seasons and it is still relevant today.  As men, we long for connection, brotherhood, and trust and to process our thoughts with other men that know us.

Starting June 4th, Summer men’s depth group will begin at 5:30 every Thursday at Brady’s Specialty Coffee.  We will look at and discuss a passage of scripture while enjoying some coffee.  This Summer, we will be highlighting 10 passages from throughout the Bible that we believe convey the sweep of its narrative.  Around 6:30, we will head over to Father Matt’s porch or somewhere else to enjoy some cold beverages and to talk about all the things we didn’t get to during the Bible study.

This summer our goal is to get a firmer grasp on the “grand narrative arc” of the story of the Bible, with its structure of creation, fall, and redemption.

The Bible, Coffee, Beer, and good friends: does it get any better than this?  I don’t think so.  See you there!
